The War File: The Afrika Korps 514eep11

Studio: Cromwell Productions
DVD Release Date: August 12, 2008
Run Time: 50 minutes

This is the story of the rise and fall of one of the legendary armies of World War II: The Afrika Korps. Forever associated with its brilliant commander, Erwin Rommel--the Desert Fox of legend--the Africa Korps almost succeeded in expelling British forces from North Africa and seizing control of the vital Suez Canal. The Korps' defeat at the Second Battle of El Alamein, in November 1942, led to its retreat across North Africa and its eventual expulsion from the continent in May 1943. This program combines rare, superb footage from German and Allied archives with expert commentary and analysis from some of the UK's leading military authorities to tell the dramatic story of one of the crucial military theaters of World War II.
