The War File: Tanks! Barbarossa Barbar10

Run Time: 48 minutes

German armor played a pivotal role in Operation Barbarossa, the Nazi attack on the Soviet Union in June of 1941. In this program we look at German tanks, their role, deployment and the tactics in the first critical weeks of the Nazi invasion. Time and again, German Panzer divisions led the breakthroughs through the Soviet lines of defense and made possible the stunning advances of German forces. This episode features rare archive film, informative 3-D graphics, new footage of surviving machines, and the views of some of the leading authorities on armored warfare, including David Fletcher of the Royal Tank Museum, German army veteran Gerry Majewski, and author and historian Bob Carruthers.

Part of the Tanks! series this episode covers Operation Barbarossa using period black and white film and computer graphics. Good viewing this series has been screened on Discovery channel in the past.
